Annette at the Launch for the UK's First Costal Action Zone
Last week Annette Brooke MP, Member for Mid Dorset & Poole North attended the launch of the UK's first ever "Coastal Action Zone" at the Houses of Parliament.
Britain's first Coastal Action Zone (CAZ) is a pioneering initiative to address the unique social and economic issues faced by the UK's coastal communities. The Parliamentary launch event told a 'tale of two coasts', revealing that the majority of the UK coastline bears no resemblance to better-known affluent coastal areas such as Brighton or Bournemouth.
Those at the event, including Lord Rooker, Government Minister for Regeneration and the Regions, were shown new statistics underlining the stark contrast in the standards of living enjoyed by coastal and non-coastal communities in Britain today.
Councillor Webb, Leader of East Lindsey District Council in Lincolnshire and Chairman of the Coastal Action Zone said: "Whilst study after study has examined the inner cities, the coalfields and rural areas, there has been scant political attention paid to the coast. For the first time ever, the Coastal Action Zone aims to offer a model of how to deliver economic and social support on a local level to all coastal areas and ultimately aims to improve public services and the quality of life of those living on or near our coastlines."
Annette Brooke MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole said: "As I represent a constituency with a coastline, I welcome the launch of the Coastal Action Zone as a very important milestone in helping to draw attention to the social and economic problems faced by my some of my constituents on a daily basis. I greatly welcome this project and hope we can build on the great levels of support shown at the launch event this week. "
