(L to R) Philip Warr (Deputy Chairman IOD); Jonathan Clark (Chairman IoD); Sir John Butterfill MP (Bournemouth West) and Annette Brooke MP (Mid Dorset & North Poole)
Leaders of some of the top businesses in South East Dorset from aerospace to construction, venture capital to HR and other professional services met Annette Brooke and other local MPs at a lunch forum hosted by the Wessex Branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) at The Carlton Hotel, Bournemouth on 20th October.
During a cross party debate Annette Brooke MP, Sir John Butterfill MP and Tobias Ellwood MP were questioned on a range of issues that affect business and employment including EU enlargement and tax harmonisation, reform of business regulation, the process of government grants and the implications of the possible removal of the 48 hour opt out under the working time directive.
Concluding matters, Wessex IoD Chairman, Jonathan Clark, thanked his parliamentary guests and suggested that the political party that sensibly addressed deregulation and compliance in order to assist the competitiveness of UK business worldwide could be assured of the business vote.
