Annette Brooke, Lib Dem MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, has condemned both Conservative and Labour governments for Post Office closures.
Whilst 4,000 Post Office branches have been closed since Labour came to power, 3,500 Post Office branches were closed under the last Conservative government.
Following on from the Government's recent announcement of a further 2,500 Post Office branch closures by 2009, Annette is personally visiting all the Post Offices in her constituency. Annette said:
"I have visited the three sorting offices in my constituency early in the morning and have already been to more than half the Post Offices. I am very clear about how unsupported Royal Mail workers feel and the concerns of local Post Office staff."
Annette has launched a special petition against the closures that people living in Mid Dorset and North Poole can sign. The petition is now available in many local post offices or, in the New Year, from Annette's constituency office at 14 York Road, Broadstone. (Telephone number 01202 658629)
Annette Brooke says:
"If we want to keep these vital local services, we must support them by using them."
