Annette Brooke supports the 'Be Carbon Monoxide Aware' campaign

October 22, 2007 12:00 AM

Annette Brooke MP this week welcomed the launch of a new logo to help promote increased recognition of the dangers of deadly carbon monoxide (CO) gas to the general public.

The Carbon Monoxide Consumer Awareness Alliance (COCAA) launched the 'Be Carbon Monoxide Aware' logo in the House of Commons on 16 October during Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week (15-19 October). COCAA is co-ordinated by gas industry safety watchdog CORGI and consists of all the major energy retailers, representatives across all fuel types, victim support charities and manufacturers of carbon monoxide alarms.

In addition to encouraging its use by all interested parties, individual COCAA members will be using the logo on items such as gas bills, leaflets and websites, encouraging the public to think about gas safety and make sure they are safeguarded against CO poisoning.

Speaking at the launch, Annette Brooke MP said:

"I am pleased to see that the industry has come together to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be deadly. I urge my constituents to make sure they have their gas appliances checked regularly by a CORGI registered installer and fit an audible carbon monoxide detector in their home to protect themselves and their families."

Dan Caesar, COCAA Chair said:

"It is vitally important that there is a concerted effort to make the public aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide and we believe that a co-ordinated approach across industry is the best way to do this. The launch of the 'Be Carbon Monoxide Aware' logo is a significant step in our ongoing campaign".

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
