Annette Brooke MP welcomed the Minister of State for Transport's announcement yesterday on the Blue Badge Reform Strategy. Earlier in the year Annette responded to the Blue Badge Reform 2008 Consultation, calling on the Government to introduce temporary blue badges for those who have had an accident or operation which would render them relatively immobile for three or six months, depending on the injury.
Annette said:
'I am delighted that the strategy contains a commitment to extend the scheme to people with certain significant temporary mobility problems, lasting at last a year. I spent six weeks in a wheelchair last year after breaking my hip and being prohibited from parking in wide parking spaces reserved for blue badge holders made life so much more difficult. I was driving myself whilst still on crutches and cannot emphasis enough how much of a nightmare it was to find parking unless I was able to arrange for a reserved car parking space.'
The strategy also contains a commitment to extend the scheme to individuals with severe mental impairments, seriously disabled veterans, and more children under three with specific medical conditions.
