Protesting against Green Belt development
Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole is continuing to fight against the proposed development and building of houses on Green Belt land in her constituency. Earlier in the week she took petitions from hundreds of her constituents, calling on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to respond to the views of local residents by removing the proposal for the 700 dwellings from the South West Regional Spatial Strategy, and presented them in the Chamber.
Annette said:
'I will continue to fight against the proposed developments which would result in an extra 2750 homes in the Lytchett Minster area and 700 more in Corfe Mullen. I do not deny that we need more affordable housing, but this is totally the wrong way to go about it. The RSS is a fundamentally undemocratic piece of legislation. It is ill thought out, full of holes and insensitive to the needs of my constituents.'
Annette has already debated Green Belt policy in the Commons, and earlier in October led a protest outside Westminster before heading to Downing Street to present a personal letter to Gordon Brown.
