Council says no to early morning concessionary travel

Poole Council has refused even to consider extending the free concessionary travel scheme before 9:30am, despite requests by many local residents and Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole.

• John McBride, Chief Executive of the Borough of Poole didn't even refer the matter on to a Committee of the Council so that they could consider the matter and vote on it.

• After a large volume of complaints, East Dorset District Council recently introduced free concessionary travel before 9:30, something that Liberal Democrats on the Council had proposed from the start.

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole commented:

"Yet again Poole Council is letting down local residents. They haven't taken advantage of the Government's free swimming initiative and now they refuse even to consider providing concessionary travel earlier in the morning. Many vulnerable constituents have hospital or other appointments and have to catch a bus before 9.30am on some occasions.

"The elected members of the Council should at least be allowed to look at this matter.
