Conservative run Poole council is being investigated for "irregularities" in the planning process. The inquiry had been underway in secret for six weeks until today.
• The matter has now reached a national level - the Local Government Association and government circles are now involved.
• Sir Michael Pitt, one of the country's leading civil servants, has been appointed to investigate the claims. Last year, he led an independent review on behalf of the government into the 2007 flooding crisis
• The final report is expected to be published sometime in January.
• Sir Michael Pitt has already interviewed John McBride as well as some senior councillors and the local police.
Annette Brooke MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole said:
"These are very serious and worrying allegations to have been levelled at Poole council.
"Rumours of irregularities involving Poole Council have been circulating for some time and the residents of Poole have a right to be worried by these claims. We shall now have to wait and see what Sir Michael Pitt finds in his report."
