Further details emerge on Poole Council investigation

December 15, 2008 1:25 PM

More details have emerged in the Poole council inquiry, revealing that an earlier police investigation into the rumours of "planning irregularities" was conducted in 2006.

• While no evidence was found to support the claims at the time, the investigation was kept under wraps.

• After calls for more transparency the council has now also agreed to reveal the terms of reference given to Sir Michael Pitt:

• Sir Michael Pitt is "to examine relevant documents relating to development control at the Borough of Poole, including council and police files" and "to interview witnesses and report findings and recommendations to the council and if appropriate to auditors and the police."

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole said: "It's probably the secrecy which actually creates further suspicion.

"In as far as I'm aware the two investigations are linked. The rumours haven't gone away, which is why an independent person has been called in the hope that once the report is out it will resolve the issue."

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
