Government is making a big mistake over Heathrow

Commenting on the news that the Government is set to give the go-ahead to Heathrow expansion today, Annette Brooke said:
"If the Government and BAA think the battle is over they're mistaken. They have shown a blatant disregard of the views of the thousands of people who responded to the consultation.
"The Government is clearly trying to sweeten the deal by making promises about emissions and greener flights."
"Local residents have been given these 'promises' about emissions, noise and the environment over and over again. We know that in reality as soon as they become inconvenient they are abandoned."
"The Government is unable to grasp the scale and urgency of tackling climate change. Tackling climate change needs real action, not scrappy half-promises."
"We will be fighting through the courts, in Europe and on the streets to stop the third runway before it starts. Our huge opposition to expanding Heathrow is not going to be muted by the Government's decision to ignore people. The battle is not over, and we can still stop the third runway."
