For the 7th month running Mid Poole and North Dorset has seen a dramatic rise in unemployment. The number of residents claiming Jobseekers Allowance is up to 951 claimants, up 163% from the figures published last year.
Annette Brooke, MP for the constituency, said 'We are now very aware that the country is in a recession, but these figures reveal the real tragedy behind the Government's announcements.
I have asked local councils to set up a special local economy taskforce to advise businesses and individuals what help there is locally following redundancies. However, because many of the job losses are individuals and small firms, I am concerned that people are slipping through the net and not able to take up the advice and support the need.'
