Plea to Home Office Minister for more funds for Dorset Police

March 5, 2009 12:08 PM

Annette Brooke MP achieved a meeting with Home Office Minister, Vernon Coaker, to put the case for better funding for Dorset Police.

Attendees were Chief Constable, Martin Baker, Chair of Dorset Police Authority, Mike Taylor and local MP's - Annette Brooke, Sir John Butterfill and Jim Knight.

Commenting Annette said 'the Chief Constable put forward an excellent case calling for a) a revision in the funding formula in the future to take into account policing the 'nightlife in Bournemouth and Poole' and b) for the immediate future a cash injection to assist with preparing for and policing the Olympic Games in Portland.

I was pleased that we had cross party support from Dorset MP's.'

There were no definite answers on the spot but avenues were left open to explore both of these important points.

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
