Unemployment figures for the constituency of Mid Dorset and North Poole were today announced by the office of national statistics. For the 8th month running it has seen a substantial increase in the number of unemployed, jumping 20.6% on last months' figures. This is against the background of two JobCentre Plus office closures, which Annette campaigned against in 2007.
Commenting on the announcement, Annette Brooke MP said:
'It is a tragedy that so many people in the constituency have found themselves out of work and that the talk of the recession is coming out of the newspapers and into people's homes and lives.
I have seen the number of people contacting my office soar as they try and find the best sources for help when their jobs have been lost and their homes are at risk.
I believe all public offices need to do more; Mid Dorset and North Poole needs more money now, for re-training, support and advice for those who find themselves out of work.'
