Government ducking its responsibilities to Equitable Life policy holders - Brooke

May 8, 2009 11:34 AM

Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, Annette Brooke has signed a cross party EDM supporting Wednesday's further Ombudsman report into the Equitable Life fiasco.

The report, titled 'In Justice unremedied', criticises the response to a first report which found the Government guilty of maladministration in the regulation of Equitable Life and called for compensation for those who have suffered loss.

Commenting, Annette said:

"The Government has used every cynical trick in the book to duck its responsibilities to Equitable Life policyholders.

"The Ombudsman found evidence of both maladministration and injustice in the Government's regulation of Equitable Life, findings which ministers rejected without basis.

"30,000 people have already died waiting for a just resolution to the Equitable Life saga. Policy-holders should not have to wait any longer.

"The Government must accept the recommendations of the Ombudsman on compensating those who have suffered loss."

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
