Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, has written to the new Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, John Denham, asking him to reconsider the Government's response to the South West Regional Spatial Strategy.
Annette has been fighting proposals to build on the Green Belt, including 2750 new homes around Lytchett Minster, since they were first announced. She believes an alternative solution can be found, and hopes that Mr Denham will explore these in his new role.
In a letter to Mr Denham, Annette said: "We need affordable housing for local young people but massive building in the green belt dictated from above is not the best way to proceed. We need a bottom up approach with each community considering housing needs and appropriate sites."
She added: "The mass developments proposed in Lytchett, Corfe Mullen and in the Wimborne area will simply destroy our green spaces, attract more executive type houses, more second homes, and whilst some affordable housing might be secured it will not be in the locations which our local families need."
