LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT WORRIES CONTINUE

Unemployment under Labour is now as bad as it was under the last Tory Government.

The rate of unemployment in the UK has risen to its highest level since 1995 with local figures in Mid-Dorset and North Poole up 177.6% since this time last year.

This is the 17th largest increase in the country. With no large employers going out of business locally this suggests that small businesses are being badly affected.

Across the Country unemployment is also a particular problem for the 16-24 age group, with an unemployment rate of 19.1%.

Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset & North Poole, commented "Even though local unemployment is well below the average at 2.9% this is a really problem in Mid Dorset and North Poole."

"There is a real danger that newly unemployed people are being left with only basic support. When a big business goes under counselling and retraining schemes can be offered, as happened when Marconi closed in 2001 when I had first become an MP. But when lots of small businesses go under this does not happen."

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
