Local MP Annette Brooke is supporting a petition by park home resident Sonia McColl, which calls on the Government to protect the rights of mobile home owners from unscrupulous park operators.

The petition, which aims to ensure that mobile home owners have legal protection when selling their properties would ask the government to stop park operators who can use loopholes in current legislation to deter people from buying previously owned homes on their sites.

This is often done at "the approval of the buyer" stage when they meet prospective purchasers and are free to make comments that could deter those buyers and thwart the progress of the sale. This often leaves the home owners with only the option of accepting the park owners offer to buy the property which is usually a figure considerably lower than the market value.

Annette Brooke MP, with the help of Alan Savory MBE of the Independent Park Home Advisory Service, has already presented a bill to parliament, the 2nd reading of which will take place on Friday 16th October. She hopes to raise awareness of the plight of many park home owners who find that they are unable to access equity they believed they could rely on.

The petition must reach 500 signatures by the 29th December in order for it to be presented to Downing Street.

Commenting Mrs Brooke said 'I would encourage people to take two minutes to visit the website and put their names to this important petition. It is vital that we alert the Government to the devastating problems sometimes faced by park home owners.'

The petition can be accessed at: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Park-Homes/

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
