"Social work changes ten years too late" - Brooke

December 1, 2009 4:43 PM

Commenting on today's Social Work Task Force Report Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Children Schools and Families, Annette Brooke said:

"This report provides a long overdue and much needed insight into the profession. However, these changes should have been made following the tragedy of Victoria Climbié's death nearly 10 years ago.

"Social work needs to be rebuilt as a vocation with support structures in place from the first day of training.

After hearing that Secretary of State Ed Balls was refusing to ring fence the additional public spending the implementation of the reports recommendations would require, Mrs Brooke continued:

"Ministers now need to explain where the money will come from to pay for these changes. Without funding, the Government's commitment to these proposals is meaningless."

If you are a resident of the constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
