For the second time in five months Conservative run Poole council has been judged to be failing its most vulnerable residents
Adults needing social care in Poole are subject to the poorest levels of personal dignity and respect in the country and have been slammed by national inspectors. For the second time in five months Conservative run Poole council has been judged to be failing its most vulnerable residents and is not even delivering the minimum standards.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) highlighted Poole as one of the poorest performing Councils in the country and one of only two Councils in the entire country given a 'poor' rating - meaning that is was not even delivering the minimum requirements in some areas.
Poole was specifically criticised for the maintenance of dignity and respect in its adult social care service and Freedom from discrimination and harassment was awarded only an adequate rating - one off the bottom. This report comes hot on the heals of another "poor" rating Poole Council received earlier in the year for "Safeguarding vulnerable adults".
But perhaps the most worrying finding was that out of a total of eight categories, five have shown a decline in performance since 2008. Poole is now classed as "A priority to improve" along with only seven other authorities nationwide. Other local authorities, including Bournemouth and Dorset, showed improved performances.
Annette Brooke MP said: "I was shocked by the findings of this report, which clearly shows a marked decline in quality of service being offered to the residents of Poole. Adults in Poole deserve better than this, and this is especially true for the most vulnerable. Given that Poole's capacity to improve had previously been described as excellent it is hard to understand how the current Conservative administration could have allowed standards to slip to amongst the very worst in the country."
