As part of the Legg review into MPs expenses, Annette Brooke MP recently received a final letter detailing two errors in her expenses.
These were:
"Mrs Brooke was paid £238.78 in 2004 for mobile phone costs, which are not allowable"- This claim was made on the incorrect form and has been repaid.
"She was also paid a total of £1,300 in error for two rental payments in April and June 2006." - This has also been repaid.
Please see the letter attached.
Annette commented: "As soon as I was made aware of these errors I repaid the money immediately. It is important that MPs accept the recommendations that are being made and help restore trust in the parliamentary system. The public are quite right to demand the highest standards from their Members of Parliament.
"We need to clean up politics, and those few that appear to have intentionally and unlawfully abused the expenses system should face prosecution."
Annette rents a flat in London, and so stands to make no personal profit from the property. She has never flipped a property and is one of the few Dorset MPs to have her main residence in her constituency; her main residence remains her family home in Broadstone, where she has lived for over 30 years. She has consistently voted for reform of the House of Commons, publication of MPs expenses vis freedom of information and completely backs the Legg review.
