Last night, Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, dramatically intervened on the Secretary of State for Children Schools and Families, Ed Balls, to call on him to investigate the situation in Poole and for Hillbourne School - where it is proposed to use money allocated to Hillbourne School for replacing buildings in a poor condition to provide for additional places in schools in other parts of the town.
The matter is of significant concern in the constituency and Ed Balls promised Annette a meeting with the Minister for Schools and Learners to discuss what might be done to protect the original £8 million allocated to Hillbourne for improvements.
The intervention came about early last night during a very heated debate on the budget. Following it, Annette will have discussions with the Minister.
Commenting Annette said 'It is very important that the Government are aware of the problems with schools funding. We cannot let this issue - which is devastating news for Hillbourne - not be properly addressed. Equally a workable solution to provide for the extra places in other schools must be found.
'The Council must have known for some time about these problems, I only wish my assistance had been sought months ago, instead I had to rely on second hand information and the story in Saturday's Echo and I could only make a last minute appeal to the Government.'
