Annette Brooke, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, gave her backing to Sainsbury's Million Meal Appeal meeting with customers and volunteers at the Wareham store. Over the weekend of 6th and 7th October, Wareham customers donated enough food to provide 1000 meals to FareShare.
Sainsbury's Million Meal Appeal is the UK's largest ever single-charity food drive. FareShare supports communities to tackle food poverty. Sainsbury's have pledged to match every meal donated by customers and this year will donate 2 million meals to FareShare to help feed those in need.
Annette said: "It was great to see the generosity of Wareham customers who made a donation to this fantastic initiative. Food poverty is still a major issue in this country and the 'Million Meal Appeal' helps to address the situation and tackle the issue head-on. Every donation is going to support charities and projects that need our help, so thank-you to everyone in Wareham who donated over the weekend".
The items collected, including tins, dried pasta, pasta sauce, rice, tea and instant coffee, are destined for local charities and projects in the surrounding community.
