Lib Dems have “wind in our sails” following historic by-election victory
Vikki Slade, Liberal Democrat MP candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole has
said the party’s victory in the Somerton and Frome by-election shows the party
has the “wind in our sails.”
The Lib Dems overturned a massive Conservative majority of 19,000, with a swing of
29%. A swing just a fraction of the size to that seen in Somerset would see the
Liberal Democrats gain Mid Dorset and North Poole from the Conservative Party at
the next General Election.
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for MDNP, Vikki Slade said:
“The Liberal Democrats have the wind in our sails following the stunning by-
election win in Somerset. If that result was repeated here in Mid Dorset during a
General Election, we would be on course for a historic victory.
“Having visited Somerset several times and knocking on hundreds of doors during the
by-election, I hear the same thing there as I do here in MDNP. People are telling me
they're sick of having to wait weeks to see a GP while seeing their mortgages and rents
go through the roof, they are sick of sewage in the rivers and they are fed up with the
circus of the Conservative Party at Westminster.
“It’s clear that at the next election, it will be a two horse race here between the Liberal
Democrats and the Conservatives."
